Seven sacred places across India, one journey into the Divine Human.

Psyche & Co. presents the Divine Human Mystery School with Andrew Harvey: seven retreats across India between December 2027 and August 2028. Each takes place in a site sacred to one of the great streams of Indian spirituality, and each opens a different facet of what Andrew calls the Divine Human, the birth of divine consciousness within an ordinary, embodied life.

Each part can be taken on its own. For those who feel called to the whole arc, we hope to offer the full seven-part journey as a single path; this is subject to confirmation, and all dates are still to be confirmed.

The place

The journey begins in Benares, Shiva's city on the Ganges, where the weaver-poet Kabir was born. It moves to Bodh Gaya in Bihar, where the Buddha's awakening is remembered beneath the Bodhi tree, and then to Mahabalipuram on the Tamil Nadu coast, with its Pallava Shore Temple and the great relief of the Descent of the Ganges. From there it travels north to Srinagar in Kashmir, homeland of the fourteenth-century Shaiva mystic Lalla, also known as Lal Ded, whose vakhs are among the earliest works of Kashmiri poetry; and to Ranikhet, a hill town in Uttarakhand within sight of the Himalaya.

The last two parts turn south. At Somatheeram in Kerala the focus is Ayurveda and the care of the body. The journey closes in Pondicherry, where Sri Aurobindo and the Mother founded their ashram in 1926 and where both rest in the samadhi in its courtyard; Aurobindo's vision of the divinisation of earthly life is one of the deepest roots of Andrew's own teaching.

The teachings

  • Benares: Kabir, devotion and the meeting of life and death on the Ganges.
  • Bodh Gaya: the Buddha's awakening, clear seeing and compassion.
  • Mahabalipuram: sacred art, the sea and the Descent of the Ganges as embodied devotion.
  • Srinagar and Ranikhet: Lalla's Kashmiri Shaivism, then the silence and grandeur of the Himalayan foothills.
  • Somatheeram: Ayurveda and the body as a temple of awakening.
  • Pondicherry: Sri Aurobindo, the Mother and the transformation of ordinary life, drawing the whole journey together.
